Angry Chinese Reply To Soviet
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright)
PEKING, December 16.
The Chinese Communist Party today angrily protested against recent attacks on it and its supporters by Soviet-led parties in Europe.
It asked: “If this goes on, what will become of the unity of the international Communist movement?” The main party . organ “People’s Daily,” uncompromisingly defended China's policy towards ideological and international questions in a major editorial backing up its recent call for a new meeting of world Communist parties to "settle differences.” The editorial contained a hard-hitting indictment of Soviet bloc policies on a variety of international questions, including nuclear weapons, peaceful co-existence, the Cuba crisis, the IndiaChina fighting and Jugoslav “revisionism." It said: “Communists of all countries share the same great ideals, the same noble cause and face a common enemy. We have a thousand and one reasons to unite, but not a single reason to create splits. “Those comrades who are now engaged in creating splits should come. to their senses." It said China’s stand in upholding Marxism-Leninism and truth was “absolutely unshakeable.” The “People’s Daily” described the attacks against China “openly and by name" made in the recent Communist congresses as utterly outrageous violations of the 1957 Moscow declarations and the 1960 Moscow statement and added: “This is an event of the utmost gravity in the international Communist movement.”
The party said the “erroneous practice of using the congress of one party to attack another fraternal party was first resorted to a year ago at the 22nd Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.”
