(Ntw Zealand Press Association)

W v VT A VfiAN ( OV, OU. Three 13-year-old beys risked their lives to ride the northbound express train last night, A railway worker beside the track noticed them clinging between the rear carriage and the guard’s van as the train left Paekakariki. After train control was notified the express, which left Wellington at 7.15 p.m., was halted by signal ait McKay's Crossing about one mile and a half north of the station at Paekakariki. An engine driver and a guard found a boy on the roof of the van. another between the carriages, and a third in a ditch. The next stop for the express was Levin, a threequarter of an hour run at

speeds of up to 50 miles an hour. Railwaymen in Wellington last night believed the boys would have had little chance of Maying on the moving buffers between the carriages for that time. To fall would have meant being run over by the guard's van. The boys, from a welfare home in the Wellington district, were taken into custody by the police. It was uncertain last night where they had jumped the train.
