Queen Will Open Special Session
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 20. The Queen will open a special session of Parliament on February 12. This will be the only State function in Wellington during her two-day stay, February 11 and 12.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will arrive in New Zealand at Waitangi shortly after 10 a.m. on February 6 for the start of their 13-day visit to New Zealand. The Royal ya-’hit Britannia will anchor in the Bay of Islands about 9.30 a.m. Details of arrangements for the Royal Couple’s first day in New Zealand were released today by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake). The highlights of the first day will be the formal ceremony of welcome, an informal visit to the Treaty House, informal visits to Russell and other historical points of interest, and attendance in the evening at the official Waitangi Day celebrations, with which will be integrated a welcome by the Maori people. Mr Holyoake said he expected to be able to announce the complete itinerary for the North Island in about a week. “The tour director, Mr J. V. Meech, will be completing details in the South Island this week, and this section of the itinerary will be released just as soon as it has been approved by the Queen,” he said.
