INTERRUPTED BROADCAST
Canterbury Union Complains
The Interruption of the Ranfurly Shield match broadcast by trotting commentaries on two occasions on Saturday was termed a total injustice by Mr C. H. McPhatl at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last night On one occasion the shield match broadcast was Interrupted for 12 minutes and on the other for 10 minutes, he said. In desperation he had switched to other stations but received only “Take It From Here” from one and Jazz tunes from another. Mr McPhail said he realised that the union did not control broadcasting but he felt that it was not getting as good a deal as it should. Mr McPhail's comments were sunported by Messrs W. D'. Johnston. L. S. Kirk and A K Johnson. "I know Mr Clarkson hurried his commentary—he did his part—but it was very annoying to have the interruptions." said Mr Johnston. The committee decided to write to the broadcasting authorities in Christchurch and to the New Zealand Rugby Union expressing its disapproval of the interruptions.
