N.Z. FARMERS CRITICISED

“Living In The Past” (NZ. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Aug 28. The Government was dominated by “farmer thinking.” the president of the New Zealand Taxi Proprietors' Federation. Mr A. Sinclair, said at the annua! conference in Invercargill today. The farmer wanted al! forms of control eased to help himself, but wanted the guaranteed price retained. “They are not happy to give the same protection to other forms of industry,” said Mr Sinclair. It had been said that licensing helped the lethargic, but stopped progress. “The guaranteed price also supports the lethargic farmer,” he said.

The farming interests, which were protected, were living in the past generation, he said. It was time for farmers to get out of their shell and show the efficiency and initiative others were expected to face. “They are not prepared to turn over a new leaf.” Mr Sinclair said. “Because of the E.E.C. problem looming ahead, they will have to get out and help New Zealand.”
