Air Pollution
Sir, —Dr. J. W. Cook, of Exeter, honorary ’ medical director of the British Medical Research Council’s cancer research unit, attributes the higher incidence of lung cancer in city-dwellers to air pollution aggravating the results of cigarette smoking. Have promised investigations of non-smokers’ deaths, in or about Christchurch, disclosed similar findings? With nostrils rendered black and filthy, as from a journey through the old fume-laden tunnel, citizens in their home environment suffering from air pollution can well believe Dr. Cook. —Yours, etc., NAUSEATED.
