Journal Drawings
Sir,—The front and back cover drawings carried by the July issue of "Education” may be good or bad; I’ve not seen them. But. at a guess, I’d think the art advisers of the Education Department are better judges than the members of the Taranaki Education Board, whose discussion you reported last week, whom the secretary-manager thought it well to remind that the journal circulated, not among children, but among teachers. My point, however, is this single one. A board member, Mr Harvey, closed several hostile comments by proposing that “something of a more conventional type, in keeping with education, .would be more appreciated.” There you are, teachers. Keep in line. Education should keep us in line. Convention . . convention. Remember the ants in Capek’s “Insect Play?” One. two, three, four! One. two. three four! Remember Hitler. too? Keep in line.—Yours, etc., SQUARE. August 20, 1962.
