CIVIL DEFENCE OFFICER

Resignation Not Accepted

The resignation of the civil defence office:- for the Christchurch metropolitan area (Mr J. Leggat) was not accepted at a meeting of the Christchurch district civil defence executive yesterday. The executive decided it was anxious to retain the services of Mr Leggat if he was willing to resume his appointment on his return from the North Island.

He was temporarily relieved of his duties at bis own request last May when he took up a temporary appointment as headmaster of St. Paul’s Collegiate School. Hamilton. When he found the appointment would last longer than expected he tendered his resignation to the civil defence executive. The executive decided to find whether Mr Leggat would be willing to resume his appointment on his return to Christchurch. Mr J. N. Allan is acting as area officer while Mr Leggat is away.
