Officers To Go To Australia

Three senior officers of the Broadcasting Corporation will leave Wellington this afternoon on a three-weeks’ visit to Australia to study practices and trends in television operation. They are Messrs C. D. H. Given and E. J. Atkins, professional electrical engineers stationed respectively at WNTV 1 (Wellington), and CHTV 3 (Christchurch) and Mr T. F. A. Shankland, the corporation's supervisor of television programme organisation

Based in Sydney, they will work with the Australian Broadcasting Commission and may also spend some time looking at commercial television establishments

Messrs Given and Atkins will study technical operations procedures, outside telecasting techniques and the maintenance of electronic equipment. Mr Shankland will concentrate on A.B.C. programme planning and production methods The Director-General of Broadcasting (Mr G. H. Stringer) said today that the NXJB.C s policy was to let

as many as possible of its key television staff gain firsthand knowledge of developments overseas, especially in Australia.
