A boy wes killed and another was injured In a collision with an articulated truck on the east approach of the New Brighton bridge about 4.30 p.m. yesterday. The boy killed was: Paul Bonnington. aged nine, son of Mr and Mrs H. Bonnington. of 119 Beresford street. New Brighton.

The other boy, Geoffrey Mcllroy, aged seven, son of Mr and Mrs H. A. Mcllroy, of 654 Pages road, suffered head and leg injuries. The two boys had been sitting on a bicycle parked by the kerb near the crown of the bridge. The truck was turning from Seaview road into New Brighton road on the roundabout when the driver felt something strike his truck.

It is thought that the boys, who were facing New Brighton, pushed off from the kerb, one barring the other, and. being unable to stop on the gradient, ran into the lorry just in front of the rear wheels.

Owned by the Isaac Engineering and Construction Company. Ltd., at present engaged on the reconstruction of Marine parade, the truck was driven by Donald David Wild, aged 28. of 23 Parnwell street, Burwood.

Mcllroy's condition in the Christchurch Hospital last evening was reported to be fairly comfortable. Any witnesses of the accident are asked to get in touch with the police.
