Voltage Control

Sir,—Further to the letter from Mr J. S. Pollard, inquiring about voltage control and low voltage, the New Zealand Electricity Department Is, of course, the final arbiter in this matter. I understand the procedure is that. If complaints are made to Wellington, the supply authority concerned is given some 12 months to improve the position. The legal limits are 5 per cent, above or below 230 volts. In the case of power boards, and probably M.E.D.S, too, the initial procedure is to “raise eain”, for a start, and keep on raising it. Then perhaps a voltage recorder will be placed on yotir premises. You will not be shown the chart. The line drawn by the recording pen will be something like the Southern Alps—all ups and downs, mostly downs. The real ultimate remedy is to get the running bf electricity supply away from "parish pump” methods.—Yours, etc., KATHLEEN MAVOURNEEN. August 13, 1962.
