War Disability Pensions
Sir,—lhe letter of “Dis--1 iliusioned Nationalist” is a timely one, as it enables me to say that Labour and l National are identical twins in war pensions. The query regarding premature ageing in war pensioners is one which both parties should have provided for adequately 20 years ago. But unfortunately both Labour and National have suffered from the common public delusion that war pensions are settled and done with. To the contrary, the whole subject is more vital than ever. This is proved in the War Pensions report for 1962. There are 3293 pensioners on combined disability and economic pensions. Of these, 1926 are classified as *TOO per cent, and over" disabilities.— Yours, etc., R. M. THOMSON. l4, 1962.
