GIFT FOR HOSPITAL
Treatment Of Cancer (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, August 13. Mr J. B. Sainsbury, of Torbay, Auckland, has given £lO,OOO to the Waikato Hospital Board. Announcing the gift today, the chairman of the board (Mr E. G. Guy) said it was for the following purposes:— (1) The augmentation of any grant made by the Government for fellowship® for training overseas suitable practitioners in radio-therapy and the investigation of the latest methods in the treatment of cancer. (2) In and towards the purchase of any desirably up-to-date plant considered by the board to be necessary for the treatment of cancer in the board’s district. (3) Generally for the investigation and treatment of cancer and relief of cancer patients from the board's district.
Mr Sainsbury' said it was a condition of the trust that the funds were to be available only if a Government grant for the particular purpose was limited or not normally obtainable. In other words, it was not to be used in any way that would relieve the Government or the board of usual and necessary expenditure.
