CHILDREN LEFT IN CRECHES

Long Wait For Supervisors Children were being left in the creches at the Christchurch and Princess Margaret Hospitals long after the time the creches are due to close, so that the unpaid voluntary staffs were often kept back long beyond their arranged times, the North CanterburyHospital Board’s secretary (Mr J. G. Laurenson) said at a meeting of the board yesterday. Since the recent extension of visiting hours at the two hospitals, the creche supervisors had often had to wait for more than an hour past the creche closing time until parents returned, said Mr Laurenson. It was often impossible for the supervisors to guess where the parents might be. Requests had been received for an extension of creche hours, but this was not possible with the limited number of voluntary helpers available for the work.
