TEMPORARY BOILER
Provision At Burwood Extra provision for heating at the Burwood Hospital until the new boiler house is built would be provided by an additional boiler temporarily hooked into the supply, Mr J. B. Hay said at a meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Beard yesterday. The extra steam generated would be sufficient for the new theatre block as well as for present needs, he said. He was sorry the board would have to go to such trouble and expense, but only a miracle could result in the new boiler-house being ready by next winter, said Mr Hay. Mr H. O. Hills asked about the position this winter. “What winter?” asked the chairman (Professor A. J. Danks). Mr E. P. Shier said that, with the boilers already shipped or on the point of being sent, the hospital was concerned over finding room to store them. He was disappointed that the department had not yet given its approval for tenders to be cal’ed for the building. The secretary (Mr J. G. Laurenson) gave a history of the delays to the boiler-house plans. The Health Department now realised the urgency, however, and was doing all it could to speed up the approval, he said.
