REFUSAL TO AID POLICE
Public Liable To Fine (N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND. June 8. Members of the public who refused to assist police when asked for help were liable to a fine up to £2O. said Assistant Commissioner F J Brady, head of the Auckland police, today Early on Thursday morning, a man motorist refused to help Constable D P. Pomeroy, of Papakura. when he found the Drury Post Office had been entered The constable later chased three men who assaulted him. “In the past, we have received some valuable assistance from the public and most people help when asked." said Mr Brady ‘There are. however, isolated incidents when help is refused "
He said Section 53 of the Police Act. 1958, provided for a fine not exceeding £2O upon conviction for failing to help a police officer when asked.
