Soccer WORLD CUP MATCHES
Quarter-Final Qualifiers (N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SANTIAGO (Chile), June 7. England and Jugoslavia are expected to make up the last eight for the quarter-finals of the World Cup soccer championship to be played on June 10. They will play Bulgaria and Colombia respectively in the final games in group play today. the Associated Press reported. Brazil, West Germany. Chile, Russia. Hungary and Czechoslovakia qualified yesterday for the quarter-finals. Results of yesterday’s games were: At Arica: Russia 2, Uruguay 1. At Santiago: West Germany 2, Chile 0. At Rancagua: Hungary 0, Argentina 0. At Vina del Mar: Brazil 2, Spain 1. Russia’s victory, scored with a last-minute goal by the insideright. Ivanov, gave the Russians first place in the Arica group. Germany’s 2-0 win over Chile left her at the top of the Santiago group with five points. Chile is in second place with four. Italy and Switzerland which will play today, were automatically eliminated from the championship. The champion. Brazil, scraped through, 2-1, against Spain, which needed a win to stay in the championship. The victory sent Brazil into the last eight and automatically qualified Czechoslovakia.
Brazil has five points and Czechoslovakia has three. Spain, with two points, and Mexico, with none, are out.
Russia gained top place with a 2-1 win over Uruguay. The second place in this group will be decided when Jugoslavia meets Colombia today. Jugoslavia needs only one point to take second place. Colombia must win.
