Bobby Vee W ell Received

A large audience enthusiastically applauded the 19-year-old American singer. Bobby Vee. when he appeared on the stage at Canterbury Court last evening. The audience brought him back twice at the end of his performance, once to sing “Run to Him’’ and "Take Good Care of my Baby,” and the second time to sing “Mr Sandman.’’

The show opened with an act by the comedians Lou and Simon, who first sang a few “straight songs, including the hit. “Young World.” After imitations of Louis Armstrong and other artists with somewhat distinctive styles they went into their comedy routine, which the audience seemed thoroughly to enjoy.

The young New Zealand vocalist. Kim Krueger, sang several hits including “Norman.” the compere. Des Britten. then sang—and acted—his own version of “Donald. Where’s Your Trousers ’’* The New Zealand mime artist. Don Linden, “sang” several current and former hits, suiting his actions to the recordings. The 17-year-old American vocalist Linda Scott was greeted with prolonged applause and sang her hit “I Told Every Little Star” and others, all of which W’ere well received. • The negro singer Gene McDaniels was greeted with shouts of delight and loud whistles when he sang "A Hundred Pounds of Clay’’ and “Tower of Strength.” being called back by the audience to sing his current hit “Chip. Chip” for an encore.

“You are about the warmest most wonderful group of people I have ever had the pleasure of ginging for,” he said. “I want you to give yourselves a big round of applause.”

Bobby Vee led off with his hit “Rubber Ball” and “Devil or Angel.” both of which were greeted with shouts and whistles. His number “Love.' Ixtve. Love” had many of the audience clapping their hands in time to the beat. For “the adults in the audience,” as he put it he sang a medley of past hits such as “Baby Face.” and “Personality.” then singing “Please don’t Ask About Barbara.” His was the last act of the show.

The audience, estimated at more than 1000. mainly comprised young persons. All. however, seemed to enjoy the evening. The artists were backed by Merv Thomas and his orchestra Last evening's performance was the last of two in the city. The first was held at 6 p.m. yesterday.
