RIDER HURT
Fourth Within Fortnight
The R.ccarton jockey. N. T. Cowles, was injured in a traininig accident at Riccarton yesterday morning and will be unable to fulfill his riding engagements over the next few weeks. Cowles broke a collarbone when his mount. Coral Ring, fell heavily at the fifth flight of a school over hurdles with two other horses. Cowles is the fourth Riccartcn jockey injured in the last fortnight.
At the Oamaru races on March 26. A. H. Eastwood fractured a collarbone when Siam fell in the Aubrey Champion Hack, Handicap. Later in the week. N. Eastwood fractured a leg in a training fall and last Saturday. at Ashburton. W. H. Beck broke a collarbone when Dialect fell in the Rakaia Two-year-old Handicap at Ashburton. Cowles, who is a qualified high-weight rider, will be unable to fulfil his engagements at the Canterbury Jockey Club's autumn meeting at Riccarton at Easter. His absence will accentuate the shortage of riders which already exists for highweight events.
