ENTHUSIASTS OF RAILWAYS
Annual Meeting At Timaru Railway enthusiasts from many parts of New Zealand will meet at Timaru on Saturday for the annual meeting of the New Zealand Railway and Locomotive Society. They will also inspect the Timaru Harbour Board’s former New Zealand Railways WD class locomotive (the last of its class) and the Timaru locomotive depot. The society started with a few railway enthusiasts in 1944 and now has about 700. As well as providing opportunities for railway enthusiasts to gather, discuss, learn about, and ride on trains, the society publishes a quarterly magazine, “The New Zealand Railway Observer,” and books on railways. The society's affairs are administered by a management committee in Wellington. Branches In Wellington, Manawatu, Hawke’s Bay, Wanganui, Taranaki, Canterbury, Dunedin and Invercar. gill, hold meetings each month and run excursions over interesting railways and behind interesting locomotives.
Far East Service.— The frigate, HJM.N.Z.S. Taranaki, will sail from Auckland on April 30 for 12 months' service with the Far East Fleet in Singapore. She will relieve H.M.N.Z.S. Pukaki on the Far East Station.—(PA.)
