FREE PARKING PROPOSAL
No Comment By Councillors
Scant attention was given by the Christchurch City Council last evening to an inquiry from another centre on its policy on free parking for councillors. The other local body said that councillors had been entitled to free transport on buses and trolley-buses for many years: but as most councillors did not use the public transport system to any extent these days, the pass had lost its value as a form of recognition of council service. It was suggested that councillors be given the option of a pass or a windscreen sticker for their cars entitling them to free parking.
‘The inquiry is referred to the council without recommendation,” the finance committee said. No comment was made.
