TOWN-PLANNING OFFICER

New Appointment By Council Mr R. M. Critchley, assistant town-planning officer since September, 1959, was appointed town - planning officer by the City Council last evening. He will succeed Mr J. C. Foster, who will retire at the end of this month. Mr Critchley holds a diploma in town planning from the Polytechnic School of Architecture. London, is an associate member of the Town Planning Institute, England, and a member of the New Zealand institute. Before coming to New Zealand six years ago he had planning experience with local bodies in England; and before joining the council was employed by the Ministry of Works on planning work.

Tributes to Mr Foster’s work were made by the chairman of the townplanning committee (Cr. W. P. Glue), the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) and several councillors.
