A telegram has been sent to the Minister in charge of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine) urging that “no obstacle be placed in the way of the Christchurch City Council In proceeding with its airport runway extension programme.”
The telegram, sent on February 26, was signed by the presidents of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association (Mr R. H. Stewart), Canterbury Chamber of Commerce (Mr P. M. MacShane) , North Canterbury Federated Farmers (Mr A. C. Wright), and the Canterbury Progress League (Mr B. J. Drake).
A copy of the telegram was tabled at the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce council meeting last night.
