MISSION TO LEPERS

Jubilee Year Inaugurated The jubilee year of the Mission to Lepers was inaugurated at a jubilee rally held recently in Auckland. TTie mission president (the Rt. Rev. J. T. Holland) was the speaker. He announced that the onganisatton's objective this year would be the raising of £125,000. He said that as giving to the mission in New Zealand had been growing healthily and last year had passed £107,000, he was sure this year’s objective was not beyond the country’s reach. He explained that £25£00 of New Zealand's income would be set aside for several jubilee projects to meet needs in areas with which New Zealand had special links. Jubilee year greetings were read from the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, the Archbishop of New Zealand, the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, the chairman of the Methodist Conference of New Zealand, the president of the Baptist Union, and others. The mission secretary (the Rev. M. H. Feist) gave some details of requests the council had received for assistance under the jubilee year programme. These came from Papua, South-east Asia, Formosa, Tanganyika, and Ethiopia. He said that requests for assistance were still coming to hand and detailed allocations of the £25,000 set aside for this purpose had not been completed.
