Papanui Floral Festival
The floral festival at Papanui concluded with an afternoon visit from the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs G. Manning). Mr Manning toured the shopping area, and afterwards, speaking from the Post Office steps, congratulated the residents and shopkeepers on their effort, which he described as splendid. Miss P. Oldfield, the festival queen, also toured the suburb durihg the afternoon and inspected the many floral arrangements.
Floral exhibits by residents were arranged in the shop windows and judged by Mesdames M. J. P. Glasgow and O. M. Miller. Results were:— Senior: No. 17, Mrs E. Wiseman, 1; No. 5, Mrs H. M. Thomson, 2; No. 15, Miss J. Jacobs, 3. Junior: No. 19, Miss L. Wiseman, 1; No. 20, Miss D. Moffit, 2; Nos. 18 and 23, Misses B. Drury and S. McGuire (equal), 3.
