INJUNCTION SOUGHT
Avon Club’s Intention
Notice of its intention to seek an injunction against the Canterbury Rowing Club, restraining it from taking out a public hall licence for its boat house at Kerr’s Reach, was given in a letter by the Avon Rowing Club to the Canterbury Rowing Association. The Canterbury club, whose boat house occupies an adjacent site to that of the Avon club at Kerr’s Reach, was recently granted a public hall licence by the City Council from June, 1963. The Avon club’s letter said Canterbury club delegates had told the association their club did not intend seeking a licence, and Avon had embarked on its building programme on that understanding. The holding of a licence by the Canterbury club would seriously affect the revenue obtained by the Avon club from the use of its boat house, the letter said.
The Avon club sought the association’s approval and support for its intended action, but, on the motion al Mr W. G. Richards, it was decided to hold the matter over until after the national championships at Kerr’s Reach.
Crew To Meet Expenses
The oarsmen to represent Canterbury at the interprovincial eight-oared rowing championships on Lake Karapiro at Easter will be required to meet all expenses, except for the transport of the boat. This course was laid down at a meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association. Most delegates favoured sending a crew, subject to its members paying their own expenses, because of the limited amount of money at the association’s disposal for such a trip. It was decided to instruct the selectors to choose a crew on this understanding.
