Rowing REGATTA AT TIMARU
Early Start Planned “Timaru is perhaps setting a new fashion in rowing." said the president of the Canterbury Amateur Rowing Association (Mr B. R. Walker) when the Timaru club was granted permission to start its status regatta on March 24 at 7.30 a.m. at a meeting of the association.
Correspondence from the Timaru club claimed that Timaru harbour was in its best condition for rowing in the early morning. Visiting oarsmen could travel to Timaru on the previous day and camp overnight. Mr A. H. Gould was appointed umpire for the regatta and Mr E. R. Lindstrom was named as Canterbury Rowing Association representative.
The Kaiapoi club was granted permission to hold a regatta on March 31. There was some discussion as to whether the fixture could be recognised as a status regatta as the course was only half a mile in length, and it was decided to peruse the N.Z.A.R.A. rules to gain a decision on the matter. It was decided to invite the Otago and Southland associations to send crews to Christchurch for the triangular contest on April 7. The programme would be drawn up by representatives of the three associations during the New Zealand championships at Kerr’s Reach next week, it was decided.
