Only One Real ‘Strad ' In N.Z.?

Mr Bernard Barker, a Christchurch violin teacher, said yesterday that he knew of only one genuine Stnadivarius in New Zeeland—although he had seen dozens with the Stradivarius label, He said he played a violin 20 year? ago in Wellington that was a genuine Stradivarius, owned by the late Archbishop Redwood.

“It was a most disappointing instrument,” said Mr Barker. “I understand that he picked it up in France when he was studying with the Marist Order there. It was valued at about £l2OO. I think he left it to Silverstream College in Wellington and that it is housed there now.”
