India Beats England

India beat England in a test cricket series for the first time in history when it won the fifth test today by 128 runs.

India also won the fourth test and took the five-match series with two victories and three draws. It was its third test win against England in 29 matches.

India took a step nearer victory when the overnight batsmen, P. H. Parfitt and B. R. Knight, fell to the spinner, S. Durani. Parfitt and Knight both made 33. G. F. Millman was then out for 14. making England 194 for eight, and by lunch it was 202 for eight England's tail-enders made a last-ditch stand to avert defeat but the clever Indian spin attack took its toll. England was all out for 209. England, which had resumed its second innings today at 122 for five, faced an almost impossible task of adding 216

runs to win on a pitch taking spin. India had set E gland to score 338 in 487 minutes in its second innings.
