DECLARATION NOT SIGNED
Boats Disqualified By Committee
(From Our Own Reporter)
WELLINGTON, January 8. Two highly-placed Canterbury boats were among the 20 craft disqualified from the second Leander trophy race by the contest sailing committee this evening. They were Fantastic (G J. Cooke. Waimakariri club) and Impetuous (B J. c. Wall. Canterbury club), which finished fourth and fifth in this afternoon's race.
The disqualifications were made because the skippers failed to sign a declaration, posted publicly, that they had sailed the race fairly and fullv. A third Canterbury boat. D HaTison's Retort, which finished twenty-fourth, was disqualified for the same reason.
The chairman of the contest sailing committee. Mr H Wagstaff. of Wellington, said the committee's disciplinary action was intended to make all competitors abide by the rules. Mr Wagstaff said that the boats which will be listed as "not finishing " will qualify for starting points but these will not be sufficient to prevent Fantastic and Impetuous from having other boats promoted over them in the points table.
