AUCKLAND, January 8. A French-speaking student from New Caledonia. Serge Oxford, aged 14, who has been spending a month in New Zealand with 12 other New Caledonian students, has learnt more about sheep than most New Zealanders. Because of it* unsuitable climate. New Caledonia has no *heep and the only sheep Serge had seen before had been in pictures. During his stay in New Zealand he has been the g-jest of Nigel Hare, whose father has a 1000-acre farm at Parekura Bay. in the Bay of Islands. Now It i* Nigel’s turn to spend a month in New Caledonia as Serge's guest. He will stay at Paita, a village 15 miles from Noumea, where Serge’s father is the postmaster.

Also spending a month in New Caledonia are 12 other New Zealand students. 10 girl* and two boys, who have been hosts to the rest of the New Caledonian students. All left Whenuapai today by air for Noumea.

Accompanying the New Zealand students in New Caledonia are Miss M. Orr, senior French mistress at Nelson Girls’ College, and Mr F. A. .Charlton, senior French master of Te Kuiti High School.
