N.I. Teams In Lead

(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Jan * With a convincnig win each in the first two races of the 1962 Cornwell Cup yachting contest at Port Taranaki today. Auckland and the cup holder. New Plymouth, share the lead with 150 points each. Both crews gained first and third piacings. to bring them level on points at the end of the first day of the eight-race contest.

Wellington is in third position, wHh 106.67 points from a second and a fourtn.

But all results would be subject to Inquiry, the cup protest committee announced tonight. In the first race, a protest qas been lodged involving the Nelson and Tauranga craft, while the second race brought incidents involving Auckland. Wellington. Titahi Bay. and Lyttelton. Sailing conditions at Port Taranaki today left little to be desired. A light to moderate easterly in the morning swung round to a south-westeny at the end of the afternoon's race. In the first race, all crews sailing their own craft. Auckland took the lead just after the start, and was never headed. Provisional results are:— First Race.—Auckland (Tantrum), R. Dew, L.
