CHINESE TROOPS
“India Would Use Force"
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) WASHINGTON. January 3. An Indian diplomat said last night that India would use force if necessary to remove Chinese troops from India’s territory. The chief of the information service at the Indian Embassy in Washington, Mr S. D. Kallelkar, made the statement during a lively 90minute radio debate with a member of Portugal's delegation to the United Nations, Mr Bernardo Teixeira. Asked why India had moved into Goa first before tackling Chinese troops who had pushed across India's northern frontier, Mr Kallelkar said: “In Goa, people are concerned while in the Himalaya mountains there is only barren land at 14,000 to 17,000 feet.
"You cannot push them out in one day. It takes time for preparation,'’ he said. “We have served notice we will not tolerate the Chinese to remain on Indian territory. We will discuss the question to the bitter end and then use force if necessary." Mr Kallelkar contended that the Portuguese in Goa were in the position of an unwelcome intruder who occupied three rooms In a mansion and would not leave without being forcibly expelled. Mr Teixeira snapped back: "It no happens that Portugal occupied the three rooms for more than 406-years—long before the mansion was built ”
The Portuguese pointed out tha Goans had been Portuguese citizens from the beginning and a Goan was now serving as a justice of the Supreme Court another as Governor-General of Angola and still another as Portugal’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
