TALK ON CANCER

Detection And Cure A talk on cancer, its detection and cure, was given by Mr L. A. Bennett, chairman of the Canterbury branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society, at a recent meeting in Waikari arranged by the Hurunui branch of the Plunket Society and its seven sub-branches. Two officers of the Health Department, Misses M. Cameron and P. J. Clarkson, showed films, after which questions were asked and a discussion was held. More than 350 women atended the meeting, some of whom had travelled 40 DJiles or so to hear the talk. * .. The branch’s sub-branches in Waikari, Glenmark, Hawarden, Cheviot, Waiau, Culverden. and Scargill-Motu-nau were represented at the meeting. Members of all other Women's organisations in the district were invited.

The president of the Hurunui branch (Mrs J. W. Mosley) introduced Mr Bennett and later thanked members of the audience for their support of Plunket work. Mrs D. B. Stevenson thanked Mr Bennett for his address and for replying to many questions. A retiring collection raised more than £2O for the cancer campaign.
