COUNTY HEALTH INSPECTION
Proposals For Halswell
The Halswell county engineer (Mr M. J. Clark) will take over the duties of health inspector for the county if the county council has the power to appoint him, a meeting of the council decided on Thursday afternoon. Health and sanitary inspection in the county is done by an officer of the Health Department. The county clerk (Mrs R. Ballintine) said the cost was about £9O a year. Mr Clark said he could carry out the duties of building inspector and health inspector. At the present time he found that he did not know what was going on. Health inspectors, he said, attended courses which dealt only with health inspection. “They stick rigidly to the book and the book is not always right for all conditions.” If the council finds it has the power to do away with the services ot the health inspector, Mr Clark will take over the health inspection at the end of the next quarter.
