PRESTONS ROAD FLOODING

Position To Be Reviewed

A report on the visit of council representatives to residents of Prestons road whose properties were inundated by flood waters last winter would be forwarded to the Christchurch Drainage Board the Waimairi County Council decided on Thursday evening. Cr. W. T. Rice asked if the council could legally bear any cost towards a drainage scheme to prevent any flooding of the properties. The county clerk (Mr K. Maclachlan) advised that he thought financial responsibility rested with the drainage board.

Cr. Rice thought the residents themselves had some responsibility to bear In the matter, but the council should make every effort possible to help them without involving the council in a great deal of expense. He said that the drainage board would bold a meeting to review the matter and suggested Mr Madachlan be authorised to be present at this meeting.
