VALUABLE FOSSILS
Party’s Find In Antarctic (N Z. Press Association) SCOTT BASE, November 16 The No 1 field party of the New Zealand Antarctic expedition. at present exploring virgin territory only 300 miles from the South Pole, has found some well preserved and valuable plant fossils, according to a message received at Scott Base. The party, led by Mr W Herbert, has experienced appalling weather wish all members suffering from alight frostbite. The party is carrying out topographical and geological mapping work at about 9000 ft. With the leader are a geologist, Mr V MacGregor, a surveyor, Mr P. Otway, and a field assistant, Mr K. Pain. At present they are working at the head ot the Beardmore glacier east to the Shackleton glacier and poesibly on to the Robert Scott glacier. When they have finiehed they will be picked up by an aircraft from the United States VX6 Squadron.
