CYCLING EXCITING FINISHES AT ENGLISH PARK

The second night of the Combined Cycling Clubs' track meeting at English Park last evening produced some excellent racing and exciting finishes. J. Hawkins and D Rogers, two front markers in the amateur events, showed speed and caused the back markers to ride exceptionally hard.

In the heats of the mile and a half handicap. Ron Bush and T. Bamden were outstanding in their respective heat*. With three laps to go. Bush moved smartly to the front and gained a commanding lead and did not give the others a chance. Bamden tried the same tactics as Bush and these paid off because he was not headed, although C. Gene made a valiant effort to catch Bamden. In the final A. Trotter took off early but he was soon gathered in by D. Wood and A. Leppens. These two then tried to carry on but Ron Bush brought up the others Going down the back straight for the last time B. Bretteli made a very fast forward move to go right round the

field to gain the lead. He kept up a fast pace and was only beaten on the Line by Wood.

K_ Brown and B. A'Court thrilled the crowd with their brilliant riding from the back marks. From almost impossible position* with less than a lap to go they got up to share the major places. G. Moore also showed speed for his first night on the track. ■Die 13-lap event was exciting. M. Wildermoth led out at the bell with J. William* on hi* wheel. Down the back straight William* passed Wildermoth and B. A'Court went with him. Over the last 220 yards it was a battle royal. A’Court passed Williams just before the line, G. Moore got up for second and K. Brown was third In the 5000 metre sprint between Lock and Brown. Lock took the initiative. Entering the back straight he began to make his sprint. He held the lead to the straight when Brown went round him to win by four lengths. Results were:— Result*:— Amateur Event* Half-mile Handicap. First heat: T. Hammond (Myds) 1. B Bretteli (4Oyd») 2.
