Win For Shirley Four
The Christchurch Women’s Bowling Centre conducted Its rose bowl tournament on six greens yesterday. Section play comprised three games. The winners of three games qualified tor post-section play, which was over three heads, except the final, which was played over five heads. Fifteen to uni qualified. These were Mesdames Manahip (Shirley), Collins (St. Albans), Graham (Christchurch). Wilson (Richmond), Orchard (Shirley). Turner (Beckenham), Russell (Sydenham). Barrett (Shirley). Smith (Spreydon), Gaskin (Shirley). Lorue (United), Nankivell (woolston), Joblln (South Brighton). Congreve (United), and McDonald (Beckenham). When play commenced In the morning the green* were a little holding, but they soon livened up and were running very freely. In the afternoon, they were very fast, and at times the wind became troublesome. Mrs Duns (United), the winner of this tournament last year, failed to qualify. Mrs Nankiveil (Woolston), who has in the past figured prominently in this tournament, won her three section games, but went out in the first game of poet-section play, when she was beaten by Mrs Wilson (Richmond). The final was a very good game, but the Shirley combination had the edge on tbs Spreydon four and ran out the winners. 7-4. Results ware:— Post-Sectton Play First Round.—Mrs Smith 8.
