England 110 Ahead

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BOMBAY, Nov. 15. India was dismissed for 390 in reply to England's first ininngs score of 500 for eight wickets declared in the first test at Bombay today. At tea. England had made 42 without loss in its second innings. Resuming at 255 for four. India added 87 runs during the two-hour morning session for the loss of two wickets. C, G. Borde and S. Duran!, the overnight fifth wicket pair, both hit with confidence and ran sharp singles when play resumed. They put on 46 in the first hour to avert the follow-on. Borde completed his 50 in 180 minutes and Durani reached his half-century in 125 minutes.

Soon afterwards, Durani hooked G. A. R. Lock to the boundary and straight drove him for another fine six in the same over. But with bis score at 71 Durani hit hard and low towards extra cover, where R. W. Barber dashed in and threw himself forward to hold a superb catch. A. Kripal Singh joined Borde with . half the side gone for 315. Within 20 minutes of the start today, England had two substitutes on the field. G. Puller had tonsillitis and P. Parfitt replaced him. Then Borde, padding off against Lock, deflected the ball into the wicket-keeper, J. T. Murray’s face. The ball felled Murray, who retired. P. RiChardson took over the gloves, and B. R. Knight came on as substitute. Richardson performed fairly well but extras had mounted from 32 to 42 by lunch. Murray returned after lunch with plaster over his right eye. At 356, Lock had B. K. Kunderam lbw, which gave him the two thousandth wicket of hi* career. He is the only present-day bowler to achieve the feat, and the twenty-fourth in cricket history. In the next over he increased his tally when R. B. Desai was caught off a skier by Richardson at slip, making the score 358 for eight. Scores:—
