MANAPOURI SHAFT
517 ft Depth (NJ! Pratt Aseoetotlon) INVERCARGILL. Nov. 12. The exploratory shaft at the west arm ot Lake Manepouri had been excavated to a depth of 517 ft ty Saturday night The shaft will be taken to only 690 ft in the meantime. It was to have gone to a depth of 750 ft However, from WOft, which will be about the top of the proposed underground power house, a horizontal tunnel will be excavated and some core drilling done. The shaft originally 14ft Bin in diameter, has been reduced to Mt by 6ft and will be reamed out later. In the meantime, a Masterton fine of civil engineering and building contractors. Rigg-Zacbokke, Ltd., is making preliminary inquiries about the hire, supply and delivery ot plant and materials for the information of others in a group showing interest in Manapouri power scheme contracts. Mr K. S Rigg, a director of Rigg-Zschokke. said last night that a consortium 30 per cent New Zealand and English and 70 per cent. Swiss was in mind. It would be a new combination in New Zealand.
