ENTRIES FOR EXAMINATIONS
Record Number This Year
A record number of university students has entered for examinations at the University of Canterbury this vear. Examinations will be held from October 24, and most will be over by November 10, though the engineering drawing examination will be held on October 13 and accountancy examinations, conducted by the University of New Zealand, will extend until November 22. This year 511 students will sit engineering examinations, compared with 458 students last year, and 2780 will sit examinations in arts, science, law, commerce, music, and fine arts, compared with 2680 lari year. The greatest number which will sit in one half-day is 764, an increase of 34 on last year’s figure. The number of subjects set for one half-day has also ir 'Teased, 47 compared with 38. Subjects which w’ll be taken for bachelors' degrees in arts, science and <»<*n*ral subjects number 70 (67 last year), two (two) for final year bachelor of science honours degree students, 24 (20) for masters’ degrees in-arts, Science or general subjects, and 32 (30) for engineering students.
Altogether 438 (483) papers have been set for the examinations. Two hundred and thirty-eight have been set for arts, science, or general bachelors’ degrees: 11 (11) for final year bachelor of science honours degree students; 112 (96) for those sitting for masters' degrees in arts, science or general: and 77 (79) for engineering. The examinations will be conducted at the city site of the university except for engineering drawing examinations, which will be sat at Ham.
