YACHTING BEANLAND TROPHY WON BY FRESCO

B. Treleavan and M. Selwuod. in Fresco, finished two minutes ahead of the Beanland Trophy fieet at Moncks Bay yesterday to win the prize The only other comparable performance in the event, which was conducted by th* Christchurch Yacht Club, was given by J. Morrison and D. Tsjtor to the Flying Dutchman Van Tromp. whose lime over the course was Ksec more than Fresco's, an R Class craft.

Once again, however. Van Tromp was the victim of unrealistic handicapping for it was started 35 minutes behind scratch in a Mark Foy and had to give Fresco a 13-mlnute start. Surprisingly poor performances Were given by G? and D Ineson in the Junior Cherub Invicta and by M. C. Hinds and R. Davies in the R Class Gazelle. Invicta gave two minutes to Oliver’s Okapi yet was seven minutes away as it tailed most of the fleet home. Gazelle had a four-minute start on Fresco, but lost this and then finished seven minutes behind.

Open Class Race On Waimakariri Steady tiller work in ideal Finn conditions enabled G. Hobson in Fintere to win the open class race sailed by the Waimakariri Sailing Club at Kairaki yesterday. The race was the club’s first event of the season, its opening day race

scheduled for last week having been cancelled because of bad weather.
