CRICKET Permanent Fund For Coaching Sought
An appeal for the setting up of a permanent trust fund to finance coaching schemes in Canterbury cricket was made at last evening's annua! meeting of the Canterburr Cricket Association by Mr C. G, F. C. Hamilton. Mr Hamilton referred to the work done in Canterbury in the last two seasons by the Essex professional. M. J. Bear.
Bears coaching Is financed by the New Zealand Cricket Council, which proposed that engagements be for three years This would be Bear's last season under the subsidised scheme, said Mr Hamilton He doubted whether the subsidy would be available for any extended period. Mr Hamilton referred to the success of other sporting bodies in raising as much as £ll.OOO to finance tours. Such an amount could finance a permanent coaching scheme, he said The chairman (Mr T. A. Tucker) supported Mr Hamilton in his praise of the work done by Bear. Interest in the game had Increased in both grimary and secondary schools, e said. The proposal will be considered by this year's management committee. The gratitude of the association to those who had made donations to the associations coaching fund was expressed by
the treasurer (Mr C. G. Snook). Mr Snook said donations to this fund last season amounted to £243. compared with £69 in the previous year The president (Mr J. L. Kerr) said this year's fund had already been assisted by a donation of £75 by the Sydenham Cricket Club The meeting received this news with acclamation.
