Hockey Fields “Unacceptable”

The Harewood Hockey Club could not accept two hockey fields at the corner of Harewood and Wooldridge roads in their present condition, the Waimairi County Council was told last evening. The works and reserves committee told the council the club had thanked the council for its offer of the two fields. It would be prepared to pay full rates for using the fields if the council laid down a level playtag surface of proper turf so that firstclass hockey could be played. Alternatively, the club should be allowed to lay down such a surface itself and then be granted a long lease at nominal rental to compensate in part for the work done.

The council decided to consider the club’s proposals when the land reverted back to the council.
