POISONS LEFT BY ROAD
Council To Seek Police Action
A case where poisonous pills and liquids had been dumped on a roadside in the Waimairi Countv Council’s area would be referred to the police, the council decided last evening. The county health insnector (Mr W. R. Main) had told the finance committee that “apart from the waste of public money” serious results might have occurred if the pills had been taken by children. The Health Department had been reluctant to analyse the samples and the chairman (Mr J. I. Colligan) was asked to approach the department again. “Failing co-operation in this matter, the analysis should be made independently.” the finance committee recommended. Mr Colligan said the samples had been found to be poisonous. The police should be informed because the council had power only to charge the offender with dumping rubbish at the roadside.
“These were highly coloured pills,” said Mr Colligan. “and would attract children. They would at once think that they were brightly coloured lollies. Three of them would have poisoned a child.”
