Parliament’s Diary
Three new measures, the Harbours Amendment Bill, the Stamp Duties Amendment Bill and the Mental Health Amendment Bill, were introduced and read a first time when Parliament resumed yesterday afternoon. The Whakatane Board Mills. Ltd, Water Supply Bill W'as read a second time. The Auckland Harbour Board Loan and Empowering Bill was passed through the committee stages, and the Otamatea County Empowering Bill received a third reading and was passed Mr W A. Fox (Opposition Miramar) was granted eight days’ leave on urgent public business.
After a division which the Government won, 38-30. the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill was accorded a second reading
pro forma. With Opposition approval, it was then referred to the Labour Bills Committee.
The House of Representatives then went into committee to consider the committee stages of 27 bills. The following measures were passed through these stages: the Republic of Cyprus Bill, the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Amendment Bill, the Maori Education Foundation Bill, the Penal Institutions Amendment Bill, the Law Reform (Testamentary Promises) Amendment Bill, the Magistrate's Court Amendment Bill. the Land Transfer Amendment Bill, the Government Railways Amendment Bill, the Land Settlement Promotion Amendment Bill, the Local Elections and Polls Amendment Bill. The House rose at midnight until 930 am. today.
