Kiwis
Sir, —I was appalled to read that a kiwi found on a North Auckland farm was captured and removed to Wellington with the object of enriching a Scottish zoo. These birds are, I believe, 100 per cent, protected under the Wild Life Act, and I fail to see how any person can interfere with them without risking prosecution. That this was the first kiwi seen in the district for some years adds weight to my argument that it should have remained unmolested. Because kiwis are nocturnal they make very ooor exhibits for display and their export should be stopped before a New Zealander has to travel overseas to see one of them. —Yours, etc., B.N.
