Cow Experiment
Sir,—Miss Howard, M.P., deserves respect for asking if the experimental opening of the side of a cow constitutes cruelty. Some such experiments are revolting. Do they -not prejudice animal lovers against thf necessary research for pasture improvement and good animal husbandry. which are legitimate and do not entail cruelty? Cruel experiments savour of curiosity, and are a hindrance rather than an aid to progress for human survival in an overcrowding world. Can we humans expect consideration from the author of our being while abusing privileges granted in our placement of creatures sharing this world. Are we reaping the results of neglected responsibilities?—Yours, etc., ORIGINAL OBLIGATIONS. September 20, 1961.
