POLICY ON PIE CARTS

New Licence Refused

A licence for a pie cart in Bedford row was refused by the City Council last evening, when it supported its by-laws committee's view that the number of pie carts in the city should not be allowed to increase. The site in Bedford row had been occupied by a pie cart some years ago when the council cancelled the licence, the Chief City Health Inspector (Mr A. P. Millthorpe) reported. There were at present four lioences for pie carts in the city Provision was made in the Health (Eating-house) Regulations for such foodpreparing machines. Mr Millthorpe said, “but it is suggested, that the number of licences granted for this method of serving food to the public should not be increased, but rather permanent eating-houses encouraged to remain open later.”
